This video gives an excellent verbal and visual showing of the preamble. As the preamble is being sung, a visual aid is shown to help describe what is worded. This could be a great way to help give recognition of the preamble to students in elementary school and up.

This video shows that it is or at least should be important to know and understand the preamble and its meanings.  In this video Barney shows he has some work to do if he wishes to get to that point of clarity.
The Preamble

We the People, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice and insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America.

This is an executive summary of the constitution that embodies the ideals of free government.  Law enforcement, representative government and equality all espouse the values of the establishment of justice. Domestic Tranquility is the idea that one can live independently, with relative prosperity (free of poverty), and that we can defend our rights and property. Having a standing military and promoting tarrifs to protect our lives and value resources are ways that we can provide for our common defense. Healthcare, education, and countless other programs developed  by our federal, state, and local governments are means to promote the nation's general welfare, and finally securing the blessings of liberty mean we're free to do all things lawful and just throughout the land without fear of reprisal or reprimand.
